I haven't had much time for blogging in the last couple weeks, and barring any changes to my pending travel request for tomorrow, that won't change until next week, so here is a brief update..
- yes, mom had malaria. She was taking preventative meds but got it anyways. It sucked, but she is fine now.
- we went on safari. Saw tons of stuff. Took tons of pics. Will post some at some point.
- I finally got a satellite dish so that the tv I bought isn't useless. Haven't paid for my subscription yet though.
- Mom left. She has arrived home safely.
- Work isn't going as smoothly as I would want. May stage a coup.
- My friend Terri, from post grad, just accepted a WUSC posting in Malawi and will be moving to Lilongwe in September! yippee!
- Just got back from monitoring the gardens in Golomoti - it's not going so well. Will stage an intervention.
- Car needed repairs (2 new brake disks and some pieces called CV boots that I've never heard of before). That sucked. Fortunately it wasn't only my half of the car that needed repairing so Claire and I split the bill.
- Spent this past weekend at the beach with JJR, and Elizabeth. Stayed in tents but spent our days at the expensive resorts laying on the beach pretending we could afford to stay there. It was great.
- May be in the field the rest of this week. 1:55pm on Monday, and I'm still not sure if I'm going tomorrow or not.
- Alexio is being evacuated again. Will be back on Sunday.
- Gas prices were just hiked by 25%. Not sure how I will be able to afford my life, especially once all the other commodities shoot up too.

Gas prices up here at home too - now 1.35 per litre - pretty sure that it was about .99 when you left in January.
Sorry to hear that the Golomoti gardens aren't growing as well as planned. Will await further details and intervention info.
Trying not to feel too guilty here, living in this big house all by myself. More culture shock and weird feelings yesterday when I shopped at No Frills with all the choices and quality of meats, etc. - but I almost cried out loud when I saw the sad excuse for avacados that were for sale at a dollar each... I miss your salad, Heather and Janna's guacamole dip....
well a 25% increase means gas here is now $1.90/litre...and I still only make a stipend :(
Heather. email me separately and tell me how much the car repairs cost you.. we feel your pain here too... even the Miata is over fifty bucks to fill up. My scooter cost $12.. go figure.. Dad
heyyyy MISS YOU ALOT! LOVE YOU!
