Yesterday was the day. We finally moved. It didn’t go exactly as planned, but everything we own in this country is now in our new place and we have officially moved out of Crescent Guest House.
Although I wasn’t stoaked about the guest house at first, I certainly grew to like it. Every morning I would wake up to GOD TV, the only channel available in my room, and listen to Creflo Dollar and Andrew Wommack Ministries as I got ready for my day (which was usually entertaining, until Andrew Wommack would group homosexuals and murders in the same class and I would have to turn him off and go about my morning routine GOD TV free). I will miss seeing Fred everyday, the “go to guy” who works there, and who I dare say has become my friend. We would sit and chat every morning while I wait for my ride to work and most evenings until I fear not being able to get up in the morning. I’m sure it doesn’t hurt my impression of him that he brought me breakfast everyday, on time, and just as ordered, and kept me well stocked with toilet paper and my favorite towel. That’s my kind of man.
We are now the proud residents of a very empty house in Area 47, Sector 3, Plot 98. It was late by the time I was able to do my actual move, but I managed to set up the essentials – bed, and toiletries – before the natural light in my room disappeared, as we learned that Malawians don’t extend the same courtesy as moving Canadians often do and opted to remove all the light bulbs from the entire house. Unfortunately, they must have been so consumed with their light bulb removal activities that they forgot to escort their apparently well established contingent of cockroaches. When viewing the house during the day, there was no sign of them, but once we came home from dinner last night they were quite apparent, particularly in the kitchen and pantry. As the man of the house, we armed Jules with a shoe and a prayer and set him to task killing these houseguests, some so large I was fairly convinced that PETA would show up at our door with a petition against us. For the time being, we are loading up on aptly named products like Raid and DOOM! to help us win this war, while we store our kitchen items in the living room (the fridge will always be in there anyways, because our kitchen is too small, so it’s not actually all that inconvenient).

hahahaha, GOD TV. that is just awesome! Sorry to hear about the cockroaches, you are a brave, brave woman my dear friend! I saw my first ever rat the other day and I thought that was cool :)
Congrats though on making it through the first few weeks, and congrats on getting a place to live sorted out. I'm surprised its so expensive there though! I never would have thought that prices would be comparible to Canada.
Anyways, miss you tons, let's chat on the phone sometime soon, yes??
